Chubby's Tacos, Durham, North Carolina
It was very nice that Chubby's attempted a tofu dish for folks, but it was sadly lacking. Lacking in everything. The tofu was so plain, even though they added spices it didn’t do anything to add to the dish. The carrots and broccoli were frozen so Chubby's just heated it up and served it. So it's not fresh and it tastes gross. It looks like the cook tried to pan sear the tofu, so there is one side of the tofu that was cooked a little bit more (barely). This did not help at all with texture, which is why one would sear it in the first place. One would think that with the tofu being small chunks it would have had more flavor, because that’s how it usually works for small tofu chunks. They actually (tried to ) flavor it some, it even seems like they added paprika and other spices to it. We're not sure how they messed this up with all these steps that should make it taste good, but it actually tastes like mush. There’s no salty/umami taste that would make it have a better overall flavor. We are not a frozen vegetable kind of family so if you like frozen vegetables maybe you would like it more than us. Probably just more salt could’ve saved this but we will never know because we’re not getting food here again. Sorry, Chubby's. If you change the recipe we'd be willing to try it again.
