Greyhound Cafe, Malvern, Pennsylvania
The Greyhound Café doesn't have a lot of tofu options but the one they have is fantastic. I tried the Sweet and Spicy Tofu appetizer.
This was a vegan restaurant that had Mexican and Italian options. We learned from the owner that his daughter convinced him to be vegan. His favorite pre-vegan dishes, were Italian and Mexican meals, so if he was to open a restaurant it would have to include both of these. There were lots of food options but everyone thought it was expensive. We ordered the Wings Half and Half appetizer and sadly that was the only tofu dish to try. The Half and Half was Buffalo and BBQ tofu that had a looked delicious and came with a savory sauce of garlic blue cheese.
The Buffalo wings were fiery—our omnivore friend said their texture was similar to meat. The outside of these were crunchy and flavorful. Some people thought it was too dry but I believed it was just right. The people who deemed it too dry really enjoyed the blue cheese dip to balance this. The BBQ wings were dipped in a sauce that had a nice balance of sweet and tanginess. It tasted a little too sweet for me, but some people enjoy that sweetness with their BBQ. The BBQ added a moistness that was not present in the Buffalo wings which we enjoyed. Some of the tofu was cut a little bit big, if the tofu chunks were smaller the center would not be as bland (or dry) and the flavor would be present in the whole bite.
We ordered a mix of American and Mexican foods. We were all full and satisfied with the Chimichangas being our favorite. The waiter checked on us often and made sure we were enjoying ourselves. We would order this again and certainly return here.
